Ron was born in Lackawanna, New York a suburb of Buffalo and has played polka music since he was 8 years old. Ron, his wife Kathy and children Lori and Brian, Buffalo’s “Polka Family” can be seen at almost every polka event in Buffalo and many of the polka festivals around the country.
Ron’s legend started with a band called the Jolly Jesters in 1965. Ron has played in polka bands for almost 40 years with the Pole Cats, Steel City Brass, Buffalo Concertina All-Stars, Honky Hoppers, Bedrock Boys and City Side. He currently is the co-leader and plays concertina with Buffalo’s newest honky band, the New Direction Band.
Ron is a true polka legend as he was named to the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, Class of 2011 for his contributions to polka music in the Western New York area.
Ron is an author, songwriter and musician and is most noted for writing and producing the musical, Stas and Stella’s Mostly Traditional Polish Wedding, a comedy that features music of the Buffalo style “unveiling ceremony”. He was responsible for bringing It’s Polka Time a one-hour polka show to Public Access TV in Western New York, and has run many fundraising events for Churches and Non-Profit organizations. Kevin Kurdziel gave Ron his IJ start on Polka Legacy in July of 2011 and with the support and encouragement of his wife Kathy; Dyngus Day is celebrated weekly worldwide on his show which moved over to www.247PolkaHeaven.com in September of 2011.
The Buffalo Polka Connection Show features four segments, the first degree of polka connection is the music of polka bands from Buffalo, the second degree of polka connection is music of musicians from Buffalo that moved away and are appearing with other polka bands around the country, like Kevin, Dave and Brian Kurdziel, Johnny and Tommy Karas and Jan Cyman; the third degree of polka connection occurs when an out of town band plays in Buffalo and the fourth degree of polka connection is from you the polka fan who email Ron with a special request or dedication.
